Understanding the pitfalls of “Enculturisation”.
The diagram below shows the stages in forming and formalising a great culture.
- Start by discovering and uncovering good values that exist or need to be defined. Create and define them in practical and actionable way that people will be able to understand, act and get feedback on.
- Then set goals in terms of achievement of these standard values and behaviours like the Behavioural SOP’s examples mentioned earlier.
- Refine them until it is identifiable, actionable and observable.
- Then infuse these into everything you do including meetings, discussions, events, promotional material, paraphernalia, stationary, visual icons and images. messages until it gets embedded as an Organisational Culture.
- First you develop the culture, then the culture drives you on auto cruise.
The building blocks for Cultural Excellence:
- Create and define it
- Refine for practicality
- Maintain and reinforce
- Embed and thrive
